SmartTurn Raises $5 mill in Series A

SmartTurn secured $5 million in first round funding. Arthur Trueger and his venture capital company BerkeleyVC specialize in later stage funding.

SmartTurn Inc., the leading On-Demand Inventory and Warehouse Management System (WMS) provider, announced today its Series A financing led by New Enterprise Associates (NEA) and Emergence Capital Partners. The $5 million capital will be used to strengthen and accelerate development and new customer acquisition initiatives.

Cavario Inc. Gets $16 mill in Series B Funding

Cavario is an interactive marketing analytics provider and it received $16 mill in series B funding. Arthur Trueger and his company, BerkeleyVC, specialize in later staged funding when the company is closer to going public.

Covario Inc., a San Diego-based provider of interactive marketing analytics, has raised $16 million in Series B funding. FTVentures led the round, and was joined by return backers Dubilier & Co. and Voyager Capital. Covario recently changed its name from SEMDirector Inc.

VC Emphasis On 'Clean' Technology Could Overvalue Sector

Similar to the dot-com era bubble (and subsequent burst), the 'Cleantech' sector may be heading towards a similar overvaluation. Venture capital companies, like Arthur Trueger's BerkeleyVC look for potentially profitable start up companies and help them towards becoming public.
Egged on by $100-a-barrel oil and consumers going green, venture capitalists plan to pour ever more cash into environmentally friendly technology this year, prompting talk of a bubble reminiscent of the dot-com era.

Some 61 percent of 170 venture capitalists reached by one survey said they believe the inflow of venture dollars into "cleantech" would overvalue the sector, even though many remain convinced of its long-term potential.

Alder Biopharmaceuticals Inc. Completes $40M Series C Financing

Here is a good example of later stage funding that Arthur Trueger and BerkeleyVC provide.

Alder Biopharmaceuticals, Inc., an emerging antibody therapeutics company, today announced the closing of its Series C financing. Delphi Ventures and TPG Biotech led the $40 million round. Also participating in the round were existing investors Sevin Rosen Funds, Ventures West, H.I.G. Ventures, and WRF Capital. Deepa Pakianathan, General Partner at Delphi Ventures, and Heather Preston, Managing Director at TPG Biotech, will be joining Alder's board of directors. Alder plans to use the financing to advance its lead programs through human clinical trials and to continue to advance its proprietary Mab Xpress yeast antibody production technology.

In 2007, Toyota passed Ford to become the second larget US automaker, trailing only GM. This fact poses the question "besides reliable, fuel efficient cars, what has the Japanese-based company given America?" Well take a look at these stats:

HiWired Raises $9 Million Series B

HiWired, a provider of technology support and solutions for ISPs, retailers, small businesses and consumers, today announced it has closed a $9 million Series B round led by North Hill Ventures. Kodiak Venture Partners and Sigma Partners, previous investors in HiWired's Series A funding round, also significantly participated.
